Abhay and I have similar acting styles: Sonam Kapoor

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who is playing the female lead in dad Anil Kapoor`s home production "Aisha", says she and co-star Abhay Deol have similar acting styles, making it easier for her to give her best.

"It was great working with Abhay. I feel we have very similar acting styles that made working with him so easy. It`s always nice to work with someone who has done the kind of work you would want to do," Sonam told reporters.

Based on Jane Austen`s novel `Emma`, `Aisha` is being directed by Rajshree Ojha and produced by Anil Kapoor and his younger daughter Rhea Kapoor. It is expected to release in April next year.

Asked if she too would like to don the producer`s hat like her father and sister, Sonam said: "I don`t want to get into production or anything. I have left that for my sister and my father. I am a more creative person and thus acting is what is more suitable for me rather than the production side of a film."

Before embarking on an acting career, Sonam worked as an assistant with Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the making of "Black". Later she made her big screen debut in Bhansali`s "Saawariya". Based on Fyodor Dostoevsky`s "White Nights", the film also introduced Ranbir Kapoor.

Her second film was Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra`s `Delhi-6` with Abhishek Bachchan. The film received mixed reviews, but her performance was highly praised.

The 24-year-old is also working on `I Hate Luv Stories`. Produced under Karan Johar`s Dharma Productions and directed by debutant Punit Malhotra, the film also stars Imraan Khan.

Asked how she felt when people referred to her as the thinking actress, she said: "It`s nice that people think this way. Every woman and artist would be happy if people think like that about her. So am I. I think it`s because of the kind of work that I have done that this image has been created. It makes me happy."

Apart from acting, Sonam endorses brands like Mont Blanc pens and L`Oreal and said that endorsement increases the visibility of an artist.

"Brands give you visibility. They not only give you monetary benefits but helps audience connect to you in a better way because you are not your character while endorsing the brands. You are yourself," said the actress, who loves diamonds.

"I love jewellery like most girls. Diamonds are my favourites. Solitaires and even unconventional large pieces are what I usually like and wear," said the actress, who is also the brand ambassador of Anant diamond jewellery.

Sonam Kapoor dating debutant director Punit Malhotra

Sonam Kapoor is in love. Known for being a daddy’s girl, Sonam Kapoor has made a special place for another man in her life. The dainty lass, who owing to her classic doll like frame and perfect mannerism has often steered away from controversies, has stirred quite an hornet’s nest this time round. And it’s all thanks to her up close and cosy relationship with debutant director Punit Malhotra.

Shooting for Karan Johar’s “I Hate Love Stories”, the stunner seems to be quite sweet on the director Punit Malhotra. What’s more is that the two are often seen hanging out, post the shoot of the film.As for Punit, the director is designer Manish Malhotra’s nephew. As per sources, Punit was smitten with Sonam right from the time he met her to narrate the script.

And with Sonam going out of her way to spend time with Punit, the feeling seems to be mutual. Often spotted together at dinners, the two don’t seem averse to going public with their relationship. But with papa Anil watching, only time will tell how this love story fares out.

Sonam Kapoor delivers timely surprise

It’s a rare occasion when a Bollywood celebrity chooses to show up at the appointed time in the star-starved city. Sonam Kapoor not only made sure she was on time, but also ensured that Salvatore Ferragamo, the organisers of the socialite evening where she made an appearance, stuck to the time- table.Kapoor, who was in Delhi to promote the cause of breast cancer awareness in association with Ogaan and the luxury fashion label, made a quiet appearance, literally.Much before most of the guests could arrive, Kapoor made her twominute speech on how women needed to be more aware of problems affecting their health and left immediately after lighting the lamps placed on the mighty walls of DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj.

Sonam wore a figure-hugging black dress from Salvatore Ferragamo’s latest collection, and teamed it with six- inch heels from the fashion label’s Crystallised collection. The Cage Heel shoes are now available for auction at Ferragamo’s store in DLF Emporio, and is priced at Rs 1,36,000. Kapoor paraded in these heels, as the other models showcased an evening clutch, sneakers and tees with Ferragamo’s logo on them. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Ogaan Cancer Foundation. The party picked up from the moment Kapoor made her exit. The who’s who of Delhi’s social circuit showed up for the party; most of them came wearing pink – the dress code of the night.

Dior’s Kalyani Chawla wore a lovely pink ruffled jacket and praised her competition for coming up with the brilliant idea of marrying a cause with a fashion night. She couldn’t stop herself from adding: “Dior has been doing these events for a long time.” As many as 20 brands housed in DLF Emporio are supporting the cause by showcasing the products they would like to put up on auction for the charity. So, are we going to see more upmarket venues like DLF Emporio coming up in the city? DLF Entertainment head Pia Singh was at her enigmatic best. “Wait and watch,” she said.Food from Zest and On The Go, paired with Grey Goose vodka, kept the guests in good humour. And Sonal Kalra kept them entertained with her throaty renditions of ballads as well as jazz and gospel numbers during the ramp show.

Fer- ragamo’s regional director for south- east Asia, Prasanna Bhaskar, was clearly overwhelmed by the crooner’s performance. “It has all the elements that are necessary to make the evening special,” she said.”The cause will gain much from her wonderful voice.” Thanks to the chill in the air and the frenetic pace of the social calendar, the party wound up by 11. It was a rare occasion for the luxury mall where such evenings are known to go on forever.

No ego issue with Sonam Kapoor: Abhay

Abhay Deol is currently one of Bollywood’s hottest properties. The actor who has been on a roll since Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D and Dibakar Banerjee’s Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye got those rave reviews, is once again in news courtesy Dev Benegal’s The Road Movie, a film that has taken the international film festival circuit before it comes to Indian shores. As the leading man of the film, Abhay has been jet-hopping from Toronto to Venice, New Delhi to Doha. On a day when he can actually catch his breath for a few minutes, the actor says, “I’ve bought myself a new office in Mumbai. My banner is all set to roll with our first production in the month of January 2010.My director Navdeep Singh and I are just finalising details before we go on set.”He has an achiever.

In the first leg of his journey, the young actor has gone from struggling actor to being the toast of the international film circuit; and in the second leg he has gone from being Bollywood hottie to independent film producer. Yup, in about a year, life has thrown up a myriad of opportunities for this contemporary thinking actor. But there has also been his share of controversy. Reports said he was unhappy with the treatment meted out to him on the sets of Sonam Kapoor’s home production Aisha. It is conjectured that Abhay was cooling his heels on the sets of the film in Delhi because things were haphazard. However Abhay refuses to be drawn into a controversy. Says he, “My producer should be clearing the air on any controversy surrounding Aisha.

As a professional actor I will never talk about what happened on set. I hold Sonam (co-star and part producer) in highest regard. And, there is no ego issue with her.Abhay is also expected to start work with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner and he is said to be in talks with producer Krishna Shah for the film on Indira Gandhi. Of course, the actor’s silent on these films too. “My producers will make the announcements as and when they have to,” he says. “All I can say is that I’m exhilarated with the work I’m doing.”

Sonam Kapoor says no to Abhishek

Oi oi.. what is this I’m hearing now? A trade types khabru buzzed to tell me that Sonam Kapoor was also in the reckoning for the female lead in Ashutosh Gowariker’s next period saga.

Yeah, that Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se, set in pre-independence India, in which Abhishek Bachchan is playing a freedom fighter.

Apparently, Ms Kapoor was approached for the role after Asin opted out. But she didn’t take it up. And there are a couple of reasons for her refusal, says my source.

One of them is the unavailability of the dates required, since she’s committed them to her other films and Gowariker can’t postpone Bachchan’s dates.

Another cause, says my khabru, is that Sonam was skeptical about her pairing with Abhi. Kyun? Kyun ki she wasn’t sure how their reel jodi would be received after Delhi 6 had taken a drubbing at the box-office.

And that’s when Deepika Padukone was approached and finalised for the role. Really now!

Sonam Kapoor in an international film

Director Jagmohan Mundra, known for directing hard-hitting social awareness films, has Sonam in mind for a film titled Baanj. A story of a woman ostracized by society on not being able to conceive was written by Naresh Chandra 15 years ago. Mundra, who has bought the rights of the film, feels Sonam would be perfect for the part. The screenplay of the original was written by one of India’s most influential playwrights, the late Vijay Tendulkar. The story of the original is about a woman who feels she has a problem conceiving when it is actually the husband who is impotent. She eventually falls in love with another man and gets intimate with him to get pregnant.

She realizes it then, and the climax gives rise to a number of irreparable consequences which shape the crux of the story. Jagmohan confirmed to the press, ‘I want someone who can fit in as a college girl, a wife as well as pull off the role of a battered woman with equal ease. Sonam’s name is the first one to come to mind. I hope she agrees to do the project, because she will be an asset to the movie.’A source close to the director added, “Jag is fascinated by Sonam’s ability to mould herself into a role and transform into two different types of characters with ease. He loved her performance in Delhi 6 and feels she’ll play the role of an innocent college girl transforming into a woman scorned with ease.

He’s approached her as of now and is waiting for Sonam to give him the go ahead. With the type of visuals he has in mind, the film will surely see Sonam in an all new light and avatar.”Jag has in the past made such distinguished international films such as Provoked with Ash and Shoot On Sight with Naseerudin Shah.

Abhay Deol not happy over Sonam Kapoor’s fee?

Well, there is no personal grudge between Abhay Deol and co-star Sonam Kapoor but the news is doing the rounds that he is not happy with his remuneration. It is said that he has been paid around Rs.20 lakh for Aisha, which is said to be less than the budget allotted to Sonam’s hair and costume.

It is said that the disappointed actor has resorted to a different kind of technique to counter the humiliation. He is said to have flown in a special cook from Mumbai, which is quite expensive. He refused to have food from any hotel that producer Rhea Kapoor suggested, thus shooting up the cost of production.

Interestingly, Rhea is Sonam’s sister. And so, Abhay is causing trouble to Sonam indirectly.

Sweetheart Sonam is Diabetic

Sonam Kapoor recently discovered, quite by chance, that she is insulin resistant.
While this is a minor cause of health scare for the sweet-faced starlet, the condition can aggravate to develop into full-fledged diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome. Luckily, it is has no uncomfortable symptoms. She just has to take regular medication for some time.

Dr Rajiv Kovil, a diabetes specialist, told a news daily, “Most obese people are insulin resistant. Insulin manufactured in your body does not act upon you. Insulin resistance is a basic underlying defect which can progress into diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome.”

However, Sonam did her good deed when she shot for an ad for diabetes awareness, which says: Diabetes is a silent killer, watch out!

Sonam and Anil Kapoor will feature in same Commercial

Anil Kapoor and daughter Sonam will be seen in front of the camera for the first time for a luxury pen brand's advertisement. A source reveals, "Anil Kapoor is endorsing a brand for the first time. He was made several offers during his career but never really bit the bait, because he wasn't ever interested. With Sonam getting several offers (with dad in tow) the duo have finally signed on with a luxury pen brand for a whopping amount." It is learnt that the ad will be shot in Mumbai on July 29. This will be Sonam Kapoor's second endorsement.

The source continues, "Anil Kapoor has always refused to sell himself as a commodity. He was one of the few actors who refrained from doing ads despite fantastic offers. He prefers to be remembered for the characters he played in his films and not for endorsing a particular brand. But Anil has changed his principles for the sake of his daughter."

"The brand endorsed by this father-daughter duo, will definitely have an added advantage of targeting different generation and age groups. So no doubt the brand, endorsed by them, will definitely stand to benefit", adds the source.

A source close to Sonam confirms, "This is the first time one will see the father-daughter on screen. Anil is glad to make his debut in the ad industry with his daughter."
Sonam and Anil remained unavailable for the comment.

Sonam Compared to Tabu

Sonam Kapoor's mother Sunita now-a-days is comparing her 'Masakali' daughter with actress Tabu.According to film glossies, Sunita has told Tabu that Sonam looks and behaves exactly like her.

'Sunita said even Sonam's mannerisms is like Tabu,' said sources.

Rewinding a bit, during her Saawariya days, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali compared Sonam with Waheeda Rahman.

Surely there shouldn't be any objection from Sonam's side for being compared with such versatile actresses. But we are just waiting for some originality as well in Sonam !

Sonam's a bikini babe in Real life!!!

Sonam Kapoor sure believes in taking it a step at a time. She was fully covered the first time she appeared on screen. Then stole a few moments in spaghettis and ganjis for her second outing. And now the young actress is raring to bare it all for her third, I Hate Love Stories.
Reportedly, Sonam might be seen donning bikini for this Dharma Productions' date flick, which pairs her opposite Imran Khan. But Sonam is cool as a cucumber about it.
"I wear it in real life and I have worn angarkhas, salwar-kameez, bandana, jeans, skirts, ganji _ whatever it takes. If the character I play is on the beach _ the correct gear would have to be a bikini," she says.
The actress further adds, "Punit Malhotra is a young director and 'I Hate Love Stories' is a young man's sweet romantic take. It is a love story, a date flick. It will be a lovely film for Imran and me."
