Freida Pinto turns muse for Bollywood filmmakers

Roped in as a new ambassador for a huge cosmetic brand, Freida Pinto is making waves offshore. Seems like Bollywood’s loss is Hollywood’s gain! The stunner, whose latest ad campaign caught a lot of attention, has become a huge hit with our filmmakers. Vying to get the lass interested in filmdom, filmmakers are doing everything to lure the lady back home.

The dusky beauty is the international face of the same brand, which beautiful Sonam Kapoor advertises in the domestic market. And going by her awe-striking look in the advertisement, the sizzler is already boasting of a long list of admirers. So much so is her ad a hit that Bollywood biggies on various networking sites have sent feelers to Freida’s business manager, compelling the actress to give the Hindi film industry a serious thought.

However, coming back to India seems like a distant dream, as her professional diary is full with many Hollywood projects and international film festivals. The directors would probably have to wait for a while till she’s done with the work at hand. Well, looks like Bollywood has lost one talented actress to Hollywood.

Freida Pinto has eyes only for Dev Patel

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is so love-struck with co-star Dev Patel that she couldn’t even take her eyes off him at a public do recently. The 25-year-old actress was surrounded by a string of admirers at the Britannia Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, but she batted them away only to focus her attention on Patel, New York Post reported.

“She only had eyes for Dev. They look like they are totally in love,” said a source. Director of the Oscar-winning film Danny Boyle, who was also present at the event, said, “I’m delighted for them, they seem to be real soul mates… and I’m sure more than that.”

Boyle was surprised to know that the onscreen couple were also dating in real life, as he had no inkling of an impending romance between them despite working together for months.

Freida threatens Ash's Status

Stories of Freida Pinto's popularity overtaking that of Bollywood's reigning queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been rampant ever since the release of multiple Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire.

After questions of who out of the two is more beautiful and more importantly, who is being paid more, now Freida seems to be replacing Ash in yet another way.

Reports say that after the attention given to Freida thanks to Slumdog and her recent international projects, she might be the Indian face on the red carpet of all major international film festival and award ceremonies.

Thus far, Aishwarya has been considered the most beautiful Indian woman and even the most beautiful woman in the world, and as a result, she is invited to festivals like the pretigious Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival and others.

Now that Freida is working with the likes of Woody Allen, and is doing an Israeli film, she has joined the international film community in a more immediate way. This might ensure that she becomes a household name when it comes to the Indian quotient that festival organisers scramble for nowadays.

If rumourville reports are to be believed, Ash managed to keep Sonam off the Cannes red carpet, but how will she deal with Freida?

Freida Pinto's simple new Avatar

Check out one of the world’s sexiest women, Freida Pinto, in her simple new avatar. This look of Freida covered from head to toe, head wrapped in a scarf, is for her film Miral, directed by the Oscar-nominated Julian Schnabel, and the shoot is in Israel.

Frieda has reportedly been taking Arabic tuition to get her diction right. She plays a woman who speaks English with an Arabic accent and some Arabic dialogue is required.

The film is an adaptation of Rula Jebreal’s book about a real-life Palestinian woman, Hind Husseini (Abbas), who started the Dar Al-Tifl orphanage in Jerusalem following the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of Israel. Filming began on April 19 in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Miral is expected to release in spring 2010.

The cyber world is buzzing with responses appreciating her look. Says one such entry, “Let’s hope that all races, colors, religions, sizes and shapes are united in beauty.” Another blogger cheers her on: “Let’s see, is this a small side role? Perhaps so… as she is just starting out. But one thing is for sure — she is looking awesome!” A third entry reads: “The blue color suits her translucent complexion so much. She looks striking.”

While Freida has donned this traditional garb for her art, revealing photographs from her modelling days before she became famous are again in demand. Every other site now has these photos and these are getting loads of hits.
Her first fashion shoot, in 2005, was with photographer Ryan Martis, who is getting requests for old photos. Martis has been quoted as saying, “She knew how to play for the camera in her very first shoot. I am delighted she is getting such attention now.”

Her pictures from the calendars of Elite, the modelling agency, are also in circulation and are sought after by the foreign and Indian media, says Sushma Puri of Elite. “Freida was a beautiful girl, very determined, which is why she got all these print and TV campaigns and we sent her for the casting of the film.”

But she never shot in the nude as alleged, says Puri, adding, “People just can’t see someone doing
