Celina Jaitley hunts for transgender queen

Celina Jaitley has found ways to keep busy. Now, she has decided to hold a pan-India transgender talent contest named V-care Indian Super Queen.

She along with transgender friend Laxmi Narayan Tripathi announced this contest recently at a press conference. The final round will take place in Delhi on February 21st. In fact, Celina, who is like a Bollywood messiah for the Indian Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) section, offered Rs 50,000 to the winner from her side.

And an emotional actress then said at press conference, “I wish I had taken part in this contest instead of Miss India.”

Girl then you wouldn’t have been in Bollywood!

Director experiments with Celina Jaitley!

After functioning as the helper director to B-Town’s leading dark filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, Mahesh Nair is now all set to create a mark as a director with his film ‘Accident On Hill Road’. Motivated by the daily accidents that occur on Mumbai roads, the director Nair has not only narrated a true confrontation, but also has challenged himself by casting Celina Jaitley in a never seen before avatar.

Says the director, “I like to experiment, and so I cast Celina for this intense role. It will be a pleasant surprise to see her in a not so glamorous role with a short haircut.”“With her is a superb theater artiste, Abhimanyu Singh, who was earlier seen in ‘Gulaal’ and the most qualified of them all Mr. Farooq Shaikh.

The film is ready for release on the 31st of this month (31 December 2009) and I am only awaiting the censor certificate, ” signs off Nair.

Celina Jaitley ’shocked’ on getting Best Actor award

Celina Jaitly was in for a shock when her name was announced as a Best Female Actor for her English film Love Has No Language in the recently held Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). While she was busy clapping for other actors and film makers who were being called on stage to be conferred awards, she was clueless that she had been nominated as a Best Actor as well.”I was invited for the event as a guest of honour.Since I am also an Egyptian tourism ambassador, it was double the reason for me to be present in the event. I knew that my film Love Has No Language had been a New Zealand entry for the film festival which saw entries from across the globe. However, I was in for a shock when I was called to come on stage.

I was frozen on my seat for a while and didn’t know how to react”, says Celina who has since returned to India over the weekend.Some of the other prominent Bollywood personalities who came back home with awards were Madhur Bhandarkar, Irrfan Khan and Boney Kapoor.On the D-day, Celina did make quite a few heads turn though. She got an outfit exclusively created for the event and wore a Neeta Lulla creation – a multi-hued Indo-Egyptian gown. Meanwhile this is not the last that Celina has seen of Cairo International Film Festival. From next year on, she would also be a member of honorary jury. “This is definitely thrilling and a great honour”, comments Celina.Talking about Love Has No Language, the film is directed by Kahn Khan and stars New Zealand actor Ben Mitchell along with Rati Agnihotri and Kiran Kumar.

The film has already been released in New Zealand. However, it won’t arrive in India. “No, it won’t see a theatrical release here,” sighs Celina, “However, it would be available on DVD soon.”Nonetheless, Celina is happy with one of the first major awards coming her way. What has also been the icing on the cake is the fact that the journey for her has begun on an international platform.”I am glad to be a part of films like Love Has No Language. It means a lot to me and appreciation like this is just timely because it further instills confidence in you as an actor”, says Celina who would soon be seen in an author backed role of a central protagonist in Accident on Hill Road which releases on 18th December.

Celina Jaitley’s brush with death

Celina Jaitley is one lucky girl.The actress had a brush with death on a shoot in the Maldives for her southern film Sreemati, opposite superstar Upendra. It was the camera assistant whose quick thinking and deft action saved her. Recalling the incident, Celina says, ” I escaped a severe injury by falling into the rocky sea from a great height.

The camera buggy was supposed to go past me while I was standing near an outcrop. But it swung out of control and I toppled, barely managing to grab a buggy rung. I lost my grip on that too but camera assistant Ram Gopal Mishra grabbed me and saved me.” All of this happened in just a few seconds and it was Celina’s good fortune and the camera assistant’s sheer presence of mind that saved the actress.

But Celina also has an unshakable belief that those who have the blessings and goodwill of others have nothing to worry about.-along with Priyanka Srivastava, Noyon Jyoti Parsara and Kavita Awasthi
